Te Tīmata

Companion Website

Welcome! Te Tīmata (The Beginning) is an ever-evolving electronic grammar and workbook for The Māori language. Basically, as the reader, if you want a topic to be discussed more thoroughly or you want to see new content, all you have to do is email me at booksbyalessandro@gmail.com, and if it's within my scope, I'll write it into the book and simply reupload it on this website! This way, you'll directly be contributing to a more complete, accessible, and free way of learning Te Reo Māori that adapts to what the community actually wants to learn.

Additionally, if you want to read the book in print, I have an online Blurb store set-up where you can purchase a copy of the latest revision. While the electronic version will always be free, I need to be able to cover the cost for the printing and distribution of print copies :)

Although Māori is endangered, with your help, we can help preserve and revitalize the language and culture. Hit the button below to read the book and access the change log and my personal to-do list.

Have fun!

The New Cover and Title!

Although I liked my previous cover, I got a little bored of just using an enlarged version of Te Tino Rangatiratanga (The national Māori flag) and slowly grew towards wanting to create a more original cover. Following that path, I also gave this book an actual title instead of the generic A grammar of x so often seen across literature, and updated the page color theme to match! If this for any reason proves to be inaccessible—perhaps to hard-of-seeing folk—do not hesitate to contact me and I'll see what I can do.

For any other requests, remember that my email is always open.

Kia kaha Te Reo Māori!

Grab a print copy!

Again, the e-book will always be free, but if you prefer reading in print, click the image to the right to be directed to the Blurb bookstore where you can purchase a black-and-white (to keep costs down!) copy.

If coming across the resources to make the purchase is too difficult, please email me and I might be able to arrange for a book to be delivered to you. This works on an honor system, so please only do so if purchasing a copy would genuinely pose a significant challenge to your day-to-day life. Thank you for being respectful, thinking of others, and giving those in need a chance :)

I'm also currently working to find a New Zealand based self-publishing equivalent since Blurb's shipping prices to New Zealand are quite absurd, so be on the lookout for that.
